The upper madison is as slick as any river out there, and the patagonia foot tractor wading boot is by far the best tool we have found for wading it. After wearing out a pair of wader boots with spikes, I had looked at these for over a year. I emailed Kelly about size and could the tractor cleats take hiking into headwaters in the back country (rocky trails too). I just returned from western Wyoming where I fished these daily and hard. The grip is super and I didn’t slip and slide but a very little. So I rate them A+. Then I had read when wet they are hard to walk in. So after hiking into my favorite headwaters stream and fishing, I hiked back out with the boots on wet for about 3 miles. No problem with anything from beating up the cleats to the boots being to heavy to walk in. I’m 68 years old so they didn’t slow me down at all. Also, the fit is super. I ordered the next full size up. I wear an 11 1/2 so I got a 12. The wader booties slip right in and out without any need to pull and tug on the boots. So I rate these boots a success and am very happy with them.

The absolute best boot for traction on slimy boulders! This trip to Montana I decided to give up my studded felt boots and commit to rubber soles, so I threw my trusty studded boots in the trash before I left and took a pair of rubber soles Patagonia rock grip boots with the straight bars on them. After wading the Gallitan canyon and upper Madison for a few days I was miserable and regretted my decision. When I arrived at the Slide I began discussing my woes with John and Kelly, which are two guys I trust to not just tell me something to make a sale. Both recommended these boots and I purchased based on their praise. All I can say after 3 days on the Madison with these things is WOW! These are as good or better than studded felt and where worth every penny!
