Joe Mitchell’s Split Case BWO is a very interesting concept, and one that we’ve found to work extremely well during the early stages of a Blue Winged Olive emergence. As you can see from the picture, the wing case is split in the middle in order to expose a thin strip of olive foam. This is done in order to represent the early emergence of the adult before it ascends towards the surface film, and the tungsten bead allows it to be suspended in the mid to upper water column when it is dropped off a dry fly.
