The St. Croix high stick drifter was designed by kelly specifically for today’s advanced nymph fishing methods.  Each rod features SCVI graphite in lower sections for added power with reduced weight and St. Croix’s proprietary ART™ and IPC® technology.

“I built this rod to fish the way we fish nymphs. I didn’t copy some euro nymph stick, I designed it to high stick and nymph with a two-fly rig, lead, and an indicator — The way most of us really fish. Don’t use indicators? No problem, it will be that much faster for you. Want to Czech it? Great, I think you will find it performs perfect for that too. The point is that this rod is designed for real life nymph fishing, by someone who actually fishes. Case in point, the hook keeper is up on the second stripping guide. Have you ever really used a hook keeper at the grip? Hell no, we all hook the fly to the guides and wrap it around the reel. That’s the point, I actually designed it to be a fishing tool. The St. Croix high stick drifter has a quick tip, but still retains the full parabolic flex that allows it to roll or overhead cast a two-fly rig with ease, and then jack a hook set without breaking your tippet. The rod’s butt section is strong without being too stiff, so you can bank out a pig in no time. It is also one of the lightest sticks you will find so you can fish it hard without going to the physical therapist at the end of the day.” – Kelly Galloup.

I have only used this rod a few times but have found it to be just as advertised. Using Kelly’s drop shot rig, or any other nymph rig, it roll casts almost effortlessly. The 10 foot length seems to add several feet to the distance that I can control a high stick drift (hence the name).
I used this rod and the drop shot technique on the Arkansas in southern Colorado in early November (11/16) and am absolutely convinced that the action of this rod kept many fish on when the faster rods I usually use (XP) might not.
The overall quality is very high and I look forward to using it and Kelly’s drop shot technique as soon as conditions demand. I highly recommend this rod for those who find themselves high stick nymph fishing, it seems to me to be the right tool for the job!
