Fishing Report for July 27th, 2014

Madison River Dam: 1,080 cfs Kirby: 1,280 cfs Varney: 1,440 cfs The Upper Madison is still fishing well in both the wade and float sections, and the crowds of weeks past have started to thin out considerably.  We still have caddis and epeorus hatching in decent numbers, and are still fortunate enough to be having some great evening sessions around Three Dollar and Raynold's Bridge over the last five days-- It is still good enough that a #16-#18 Olive or Tan X-Caddis has been about all you need to know, followed by a #16 Rusty or Bobby Spinner for the [...]

Fishing Report for July 19th, 2014

Madison River Dam: 880 cfs Kirby: 1,110 cfs Varney: 1,370 cfs The Upper Madison is still fishing very well in both the wade and float sections, and water temperatures have remained relatively good for the most part.  Salmonflies and golden stones have come and gone, but there are still plenty of opportunities for the dry fly angler out there-- It won't be quite as impressive as it has been over the last three weeks, as the afternoons have been far more productive by switching over to the sub-surface side of things.  With sallies and PMDs on their way out as [...]

Fishing Report for July 11th, 2014

Madison River Dam: 697 cfs Kirby: 1,040 cfs Varney: 1,410 cfs Steady as she goes.  The Upper Madison is still fishing extremely well both on and below the surface, and we still have Salmonflies and Golden Stones flying between Pine Butte and Raynolds if you are looking to get in on the tail end of some big bug action (You can also find them between the lake right now as well).  Otherwise there are plenty of  caddis, PMDs, Epeorus, and Yellow Sallies to keep fish looking up below the West Fork, and the dry fly action has been incredible over [...]

Fishing Report for July 3rd, 2014

Madison River Dam: 680 cfs Kirby: 1,060 cfs Varney: 1,570 cfs The Upper Madison is fishing off the chart for the time being, and our hatches are in full effect.  We have salmonflies and golden stones on the banks  from Lyon's Bridge down to Varney, but the bulk of the hatch has settled between Palisades and a few miles below Story.  As you might suspect, that is also where you will find the most boats as well.  If you are looking to float and throw dries without being part of the Salmonfly regatta then I would spend more time between [...]
