Fishing Report for June 27th, 2013

Madison River Dam: 360 cfs Kirby: 650 cfs Varney: 1,030 cfs We are still running at very low flows for this time of year, but the river is fishing like a champ for the time being.  Salmonflies and golden stones are in full force below Palisades, but the bulk of the hatch seems to be from Ruby Creek down to Varney Bridge.  We are starting to see more and more shucks popping up below the West Fork, and we have even heard of some sightings around Raynolds and Three Dollar Bridge, but it's still not quite there...that will change very [...]

Fishing Report for June 23rd, 2013

Madison River Dam: 440 cfs Kirby: 649 cfs Varney: 968 cfs The Upper Madison continues to fish extremely well despite unseasonably low water conditions.  We've been getting a lot of calls in regards to salmonfly whereabouts, and while it hasn't exactly "gone off," you'll find the bulk of the hatch half way between Story and Varney Bridge all the way down to 8-Mile.  My guess is that with the low flows and warmer temps in the forecast, we should see the majority of our salmonflies starting to crawl out from McAtee down to Palisades this week and possibly the entire [...]

Fishing Report for June 18th, 2013

Madison River Dam: 421 cfs Kirby: 713 cfs Varney: 1,200 cfs The Madison is running a little lower than usual for this time of year, as PPL has been holding back flows out of the dam in order to fill Hebgen Reservoir, but the fishing has been excellent this week throughout the Upper river.  The wade section between Quake and Lyon's Bridge has fished very well with caddis larva, midges, $3 dips, and yellow sally nymphs...most of the action has been sub surface, but we should start to see bugs popping in good numbers any day now. The float stretch [...]

Fishing Report for June 10th, 2013

Madison River Dam: 575 cfs Kirby: 1,130 cfs Varney: 2,110 cfs Clarity Update:  The recent 80 degree temperatures have sent the last of our snow pack heading for the creeks, and the Upper Madison is on the rise below the West Fork with a couple feet of visibility down by Ennis... The wade section between Quake Lake and Lyon's Bridge is still fishing very well with nymphs and streamers, but we've been getting mixed reports from the float stretch over the last few days.

Fishing Report for June 7th, 2013

Madison River Dam: 560 cfs Kirby: 937 cfs Varney: 1,550 Fishing has been outstanding this week throughout the Upper Madison, with almost perfect visibility and very few crowds.  Streamer fishing has been good to downright e-p-i-c depending on the day, and we are still doing best on food based imitations like sculpin and fry rather than reactionary patterns.  On the overcast days you can still find fish up on BWOs and midges, but we are starting to see more and more caddis popping every afternoon, especially below Palisades.  The wade section between Quake Lake and Lyon's Bridge has been nymphing [...]
