Fishing Report for October 18th, 2012

Madison River

Dam: 900 cfs

Kirby: 937 cfs

Varney: 1,060 cfs

The last few days have been pretty windy over here, and it looks like we are in store for some more 20 mph+ afternoons through the weekend.  Nymphing small midges and baetis patterns remains your best option if you are looking for numbers, but dragging zonkers along the banks and inside seams can be a good option under the indicator too.  Streamer fishing has been a little more inconsistent, but we are still having some great days in the upper section when it hasn’t been blowing too hard  Top colors remain olive, black, brown/yellow, olive/white, and yellow, so make sure to have some patterns in those shades if you plan on heading out this way.  We’ve been getting more good reports from streamer fishermen in the Park, but the Madison between the lakes is still a little warm…it should start to really get going up there in the next week or two.
