Madison River Dam: 851 cfs Kirby: 959 cfs Varney: 1,180 cfs Well it had it happen sooner or later, but true Fall temperatures have finally descended upon the Madison Valley.  This seems to have only helped the bite over the last week, and the Upper Madison has been fishing well on all fronts.  Nymph rigs are still the way to go for numbers, and Pat's Rubber legs, Midges, Baetis nymph/emergers, and small serendipities have all been producing under the indicator.  On most afternoons you can still encounter a fairly decent BWO hatch throughout the upper river, and the emergence seems [...]

Fishing Report for October 20th, 2014

Madison River Dam: 861 cfs Kirby: 948 cfs Varney: 1,160 cfs Fishing has been good on the Upper Madison this week, as we continue to bask in the incredibly warm October weather.  Midges and Baetis nymphs are still producing most of the action below the surface, and we are seeing quite a few BWOs emerging anytime between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.  As far as the tug is concerned, streamer fishing has been excellent in some sections and a lot tougher in others...The action between the lakes and from Palisades to McAtee has been pretty slow, but the bite below [...]

Fishing Report for October 12th, 2014

Madison River Dam: 880 cfs Kirby: 1,030 cfs Varney: 1,230 cfs The weather patterns have been unseasonably warm for this little corner of the World, with highs in the mid-sixties to low-seventies over the last couple of weeks.  We have finally started to see our larger Fall Baetis (#20's) emerging this week, which has been taking place anytime between noon and 1:30 p.m. depending on the day.  Nymph fishing continues to be your best option for numbers right now, and some of our favorite Fall patterns in the wade section are  Kelly's BWO nymph in #18-20, Hogan's S&M Nymph in [...]
