The Muddler Minnow was developed in 1937 by Don Gapen of Anoka, Minnesota for Nipigon strain brook trout in Ontario. Little did he know that his pattern would become one of the most popular flies in all of fly fishing. This is one of the most versatile streamers on the planet, and can be stripped, swung, dead drifted, and waked depending on the species and fishing situation. These flies are all size 6 and unweighted.

The Muddler Minnow Dry Fly Pattern was developed in 1937 by Don Gapen of Anoka, Minnesota for Nipigon strain brook trout in Ontario. Little did he know that his pattern would become one of the most popular flies in all of fly fishing. This is one of the most versatile streamers on the planet, and can be stripped, swung, dead drifted, and waked depending on the species and fishing situation. The Muddler Minnow features a turkey quill tail and wing, gold tinsel body, and a spun deer hair head. The Muddler Minnows that we sell are all size 6 and unweighted, but you can get them down using a sinking line or a little bit of split shot.
