The Purple Haze is one of the best dry flies in the west.  Trout engulf this fly without hesitation whether it’s used as an attractor or a general mayfly pattern.
Description
The Purple Haze was created by Andy Carlson around 15 years ago, and it has been wreaking havoc on trout ever since.  The purple haze is essentially a parachute adams, but with purple super floss for the body instead of traditional dubbing.  The purple haze fly is a favorite general mayfly imitation with all of our guides, but it also works well when used as a searching pattern.  If you have a cloudy day or are fishing periods of low light, then this is one of the best fly choices you can make when fishing the Madison, and we have also had great success with it in the sun as well.
