Tungsten Zebra Midge

The tungsten zebra midge is a fly pattern that needs little introduction and can be found at just about any fly shop in the country.  Its staggering ability to fool trout throughout the world, and the simplicity of the tie is what has made this midge pattern stand the test of time and we don’t see that changing anytime soon. Thread, wire rib, and a bead on a hook may seem a little too easy to fool selective trout on rivers such as the Henry’s Fork, Madison, Missouri, and the Bighorn, but every year the zebra midge continues to prove itself.  This is a staple pattern for us during the months of spring and fall on the Madison, and it is always a good idea to carry multiple colors and sizes of this simple little midge pattern because they will definitely get on a specific color from time to time. All of our zebra midges are tied with a tungsten bead with the exception of the black/copper variation, which utilizes a brass bead with a copper finish.  Long story short, no midge box is complete without the zebra midge.
